Red Wind

oboe, harp, vibraphone and percussion (1991)

Duration: ca. 12 minutes

Notes from the recording:

“ In Red Wind (1990-91), the oboe melody weaves an almost continuous strand throughout the work, shadowed and elaborated upon by the harp, vibraphone, and percussion. The piece continually contrasts sections in duple and triple meter, while the work as a whole is divided into three larger parts by sections where the melodic line reverts to a strictly harmonic texture.”

The title of the work is taken from a ‘noir’ short story by the American novelist Raymond Chandler.

Red Wind may be also performed as a trio, without percussion
