After the Rain

solo piano (1999)

Duration: ca. 11 minutes

After the Rain was composed in the spring of 1999, commissioned by the Canadian pianist Eve Egoyan.  The piece is dedicated to the memory of the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu.

The title work makes reference not only to to an early work of mine, Night Rain, for alto flute and guitar, but also alludes to to the many rain and water-related titles which were the subject of a great many of Takemitsu’s compositions.

After the Rain is in three movements, performed without a pause.
